Buzz at the Campus and the Space Data Lab

Today, the Palosaari campus was bustling with visitors as the Campus Day brought together high school students from 25 schools, some traveling all the way from neighboring regions, to explore study opportunities offered by the University of Vaasa and Vaasa University of Applied Sciences.

Throughout the day, high schoolers could take part in mini lectures, guided tours, and student fair, while teachers and guidance counselors enjoyed discussions and networking at the “Opo Café”.

As part of the guided tours at Technobothnia, high school groups, teachers and guidance counselors visited the Space Data Laboratory, where Laboratory Engineer Jaakko Yliaho introduced them to the space scene, told about our research on space-related topics, and presented the CanSat competition, which is open for registration until December 15, with the event taking place in March 2026.

Meanwhile, Kerttu Kairinen, a second-year student, shared her own experiences of studying engineering at the University of Vaasa.

In Industrial Management, you get the best of both worlds — a mix of business and technology studies. It’s a versatile degree with plenty of hands-on work in labs and simulation environments. Plus, Vaasa offers great employment opportunities for engineers. From my own experience, I can warmly recommend the University of Vaasa to anyone considering engineering studies, Kerttu told high school students thinking about their future studies.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by the Space Data Lab! We hope we managed to spark your interest in pursuing your studies here in Vaasa. ✨
